Fuel Surcharge FAQs
In response to fuel prices rising 35% since February, we will be introducing a temporary fuel surcharge, to ensure your collections remain reliable and to the high standard we strive to provide.
FAQs
The fuel surcharge will come into effect from May 1st 2026.
For customers whose May services have already been invoiced, the surcharge will apply from your next billing period in June.
The Surcharge is a % charge to certain services based on a fuel price index.
We are using the government weekly fuel price tracker as the index, which you can view here.
This indexes the price paid at the pump in the UK. Whilst First Mile buys fuel wholesale, the % increase in wholesale cost tracks the price at the pump, and using this index allows us to give you a transparent, publicly available data source to ensure clarity and fairness.
The baseline price prior to the conflict was 143p/litre.
As the fuel costs rise or fall, the surcharge will also increase or decrease. You can track this via the index and we will update the surcharge monthly.
Please see below the sliding scale table with percentage surcharges for various scenarios of fuel prices:

The fuel surcharge will be displayed as an itemised line on your invoice as “Fuel Surcharge”.
Yes, this is a temporary measure in response to fuel price increases. We will be monitoring the fuel index monthly and amending the charges inline with fluctuating fuel costs. As soon as fuel costs stabalise, we will remove the surcharge.
