Eco-friendly glass recycling
Recycling glass not only helps in reducing landfill waste but also saves significant energy. Remelting glass to produce new bottles and jars is one of the most environmentally friendly recycling practices. For every 1,000 tonnes of recycled glass that is reused, it will save 345,000 5 kWh of energy, cut 314 tonnes of CO2 emissions, and reduce the need for 1,200 tonnes of raw materials. Simply put, recycling one glass bottle can power a 100-watt light bulb for almost an hour or a computer for 20 minutes.
After collection, your glass waste is sorted to remove contamination like metals, ceramics, and plastic. It’s then cleaned and separated by colour before being crushed and tested. This clean, sorted glass—known as cullet—is then ready to be used in manufacturing new bottles and jars, closing the recycling loop.
