Overview
In Wales significant changed were made to the way businesses deal with their waste and recycling. Greenzone supported a national hotel chain to implement changes to adhere to the new legislation.
The challenge
From April 2024, new legislation made it mandatory for all businesses to separate waste recycling at source. The new legislation was implemented to enhance the quality of recyclable material, and failure for businesses to comply is an offence. The Government released a Code of Practice for Wales providing support in accordance with the Waste Separation Requirements (Wales) Regulation Act 2023. The law dictates that materials such as food, paper and card, glass, PMC (metal, plastic and cartons), textiles, small electrical and electrical equipment (WEEE) must be separated for collection.
