Overview

The scheme in central London offers residents and visitors the chance to rent from a fleet of over 12,000 bikes available at 800 stations and 21,000 docking points citywide. Since its launch, more than 100 million bikes have been rented, averaging 10 rides per resident

The Challenge

Previously there was an inconsistent service across the estate, resulting in repeated build ups of excess waste; presenting Health and Safety and operational issues for the engineers on site. The scheme generated large quantities of used bicycle tyres and frames – the tyres had previously not been recycled or recovered, and the frames would need to be disposed of securely.
