Greenzone supports the King’s C of E School Community Hub Food Bank at Christmas

The King’s C of E Primary Academy in Newark have recently launched their Community Hub which offers support to families and the wider community Newark.

Saint-Gobain Formula kindly donated a 20 foot-long container along and a range businesses including McConnell’s that donated electrical services to enable the food hub to become fully operational. With the cost of living crisis, food poverty has become a major issue in our local communities so Greenzone pledged to support the Hub with donations and volunteering time to hand out essential items.

Over the last 6 weeks Greenzone have been collecting donations and volunteering every week to help fill up the shelves and hand out essentials which has supported over 100 families. In the lead up to Christmas Greenzone along with Bakkavor made an extra donations of essential Christmas food items so that families in need can enjoy the festive period without worry.

Claire Hillam, CRS & Creative Specialist, said; “during the Community Hub campaign we gave our staff the opportunity to donate an ‘item of the week’ which included staples like pasta, rice, tinned goods and other essential items and it really has proven and a little from everyone makes a great difference for the Community Hub. All staff had the opportunity to volunteer at the food bank and those who attended said they felt really positive after volunteering and happy and humbled that they could help families in the local area”.

Laura Marchant, the academy’s administration manager, said: “We are very grateful for all the donations from local businesses to help support our families”.

Thank you to all our staff who donated items & their time and we look forward to supporting the Community Hub into 2024.
